Buffalo man apprehended by SWAT in hostage incident

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was apprehended after the SWAT team responded to a hostage situation Monday night, the Buffalo Police Department announced Tuesday.

Officials said A District officers responded to a Crisis Services Assist call in the 100 block of Scoville Avenue sometime before 9 p.m. Monday. While officers were evaluating a 35-year-old man, he took a relative into a bedroom inside the residence.

Authorities said the man refused to let the relative leave the bedroom and that he held a “makeshift weapon.” The Buffalo Police Crisis Management Team and SWAT team then responded to the scene, freeing the relative shortly after 11 p.m…
