BUFFALO, N.Y. — Former acting Mayor and current South District Common Council member Chris Scanlon is calling on acting Police Commissioner Craig Macy to address lawmakers about his role on the night of the crash involving Erie County Narcotics Chief DJ Granville.

As 2 On Your Side reported last week, Macy was contacted by Lt. Lucia Esquilin just after midnight on April 12, 2024—about 30 minutes after the crash was first reported to Buffalo Police.

Phone records between Esquilin and Macy show the two spoke or texted each other 9 times between midnight and noon on April 12, 2024.

  • 12:11 AM – Macy called Esquilin and spoke for 6min 39sec.
  • 6:35 AM – Macy called Esquilin and spoke for 2min 13sec.
  • 11:19 AM – Esquilin attempted to call Macy, but he did not answer. Macy and Esquilin exchange 2 text messages.
  • 11:24 AM – Macy called Esquilin and they spoke for 35sec.
  • 11:56 AM – Macy and Esquilin exchange two phone calls lasting 4 seconds each.
  • 11:56 AM – Esquilin calls Macy and they talk for 2min 40sec.
