North Tonawanda family receives community support after deadly apartment fire

NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — A North Tonawanda family says they’re now seeing an outpouring of support from the community, a day after a deadly fire ripped through their apartment building, killing one resident.

For the first time since the fire, some residents were allowed back into their homes temporarily to collect essential items — things like clothing, medication and anything else they may need right away.

Heather Kelly, a resident, said it’s difficult to come back just hours after the fire ripped through the building she’s lived in for more than a decade. She said her kids had just gotten home from school when the fire broke out. She and her children were able to get out safely…
