At 1:59 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service released a high wind warning valid from Friday noon until Saturday 5 a.m. for Niagara, Orleans, Erie, Genesee and Wyoming counties.
The weather service describes, “Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.”
“Strong winds will blow down trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,” states the weather service. “Avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.”
