USS Croaker leaking fuel into Buffalo River, Coast Guard and NYS DEC report

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The US Coast Guard and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) say a recent inspection at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park found that the USS Croaker is leaking a petroleum product from one of its fuel tanks into the Buffalo River.

They also discovered water where it shouldn’t be on the USS The Sullivans.

Both ships are permanently moored in the Buffalo River, with the USS Croaker holding about 25,000 gallons of diesel and 115,000 gallons of oily water, which responders are monitoring to prevent environmental harm…
