Researchers at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY found that the mix of bacteria in your gut may affect how well immunotherapy works for cancer. In a study of 40 ovarian cancer patients, those with certain helpful bacteria had better and longer-lasting responses to treatment. The trial, led by Dr. Emese Zsiros and Dr. Spencer Rosario, combined immunotherapy, a targeted drug, and chemotherapy β results from which helped update national treatment guidelines. The team is now exploring ways to strengthen the gut biome, possibly through diet changes or fecal transplants, to improve future cancer care.
