Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan orders 60 day halt to demolition of derelict residential properties

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roughly 100 derelict homes across the city of Buffalo, which are currently slated for demolition, have been given a 60-day reprieve under an executive order issued by Mayor Sean Ryan.

It’s part of an effort to see if abandoned homes can be saved and rehabilitated rather than torn down.

In addition, the city will issue no new demolition permits for residential structures in the next 60 days, except for those that have been declared unsafe or would be subject to an emergency demolition, such as after a fire…
