Mayor Ryan challenges city council on budget cut ideas as he pushes tax hike to balance spending plan

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan is on the defense after revealing his plan to propose a 25 percent property tax hike in his new budget.

And while City Council members are pushing back on that idea, they also realize that probably Ryan will ultimately get what he wants in City Hall’s strong mayor form of government.

Mayor Ryan told reporters Friday morning that “this is the mess that I’ve inherited. I was elected to fix this problem, and I’m going to fix it.”…
