World’s largest steam locomotive to visit Buffalo as part of America’s 250th birthday

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The United States will be commemorating 250 years of independence this year, and to celebrate, Buffalo will be joined by a special guest as part of a nationwide railroad tour.

The world’s largest steam locomotive will be travelling all across the USA as part of Union Pacific Railroad’s ‘Coast to Coast’ tour. The engine, nicknamed ‘Big Boy,’ will be joined by three other engines decorated to celebrate the nation’s history.

Union Pacific said the eastern leg of their tour begins on May 25, with planned stops to Buffalo, Scranton, PA, Altoona, PA, and Chicago. Firm dates for when the engines will be in Western New York will be released at a later date, the company said in the announcement…
