Multiyear pure waters project starts Monday on Buffalo’s West Side

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sewer Authority broke ground Thursday on a $29.3 million project that will reduce combined sewer flows across Buffalo’s West Side and cut down on pollution entering nearby waterways.

The Breckenridge Street Combined Sewer Overflow Control Project is designed to reduce sewage from being discharged during heavy rain events into the Black Rock Canal and the Niagara River.

Sewer pipes, some which are over 100 years old, will be replaced and sewage will be directed on a different path to the city’s wastewater treatment plant on Unity Island…
