BUFFALO, N.Y. — Nearly 350,000 noncompliant batteries valued at approximately $100,000 were recently seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Western New York.
The seizure took place March 26 at the Peace Bridge warehouse after an investigation into a shipment of hearing aid batteries that failed to meet requirements under Reese’s Law, which mandates child-resistant packaging for products containing button cell or coin batteries.
According to federal officials, the case began on Feb. 9, when CBP officers inspected a commercial vehicle carrying the batteries and detained the shipment while an investigation got underway. A sample of the batteries was sent to the Consumer Product Safety Commission for evaluation…
