Crumbl Cookies may as well go and declare bankruptcy now. There’s a new sheriff in town, and its name is Socotra Yemeni Coffee House.

The first Yemeni coffee house to open in Buffalo back in 2021, the trendsetting Lackawanna café is home to some of the best cookies you’ll ever try. They’re so popular that they’re literally launching a Crumbl-esque cookie line-up.

There will be the biscoff cookie: a crunchy, spiced cookie with the signature caramelized flavor of Biscoff. Then there’s the cookie n’ cream, which is a soft and chewy cookie loaded with crushed chocolate cookies and creamy white chocolate chips. Of course, you need the oldie but goodie: the chocolate chip cookie. Soft, chewy, and packed with rich chocolate chips in every bite, it takes the cake (i.e., the cookie?)

We can’t decide what’s more impressive, those cookies or the brunch menu. Since most Yemeni coffee houses don’t offer brunch, Socotra adds another standout reason to visit to its resume.

The Eggs N Such Sandwich is a topseller, and not just because we order it four times per week. A 12-inch Middle Eastern-style egg sandwich, it’s topped with tomatoes, salt, pepper, and their specialty made Socotra sauce. You could be basic and go with the Avocado Toast instead (it’s worth it), or maybe even try the Egg and Cheese Croissant. A Yemeni twist on a classic, it consists of hard-boiled eggs, spicy Socotra sauce, and authentic Yemeni cheese, all on a toasted flaky croissant for a savory, satisfying bite. We’ll take ten of them.

It’s doubtful that we can do this place justice, but we can hype up some other delectable dishes you’ll find there. The panini pressed melts are incredible, and the Tunacado (a flatbread made with, well, you can guess) is noteworthy, as much as the Sabaya. A rich, flaky treat with 40 thin layers of buttery phyllo dough, brushed with egg wash and drizzled with honey for a golden, sweet finish.

And let’s not forget about the coffee. Socotra has some of the finest coffee you’ll find in WNY. Fan favorites include the Yemeni chai, iced or hot, and the iced pistachio latte. The namesake drink, the iced Socotra latte, is worth a sip (or chug), too.

With both early morning and late night hours, and board games and coziness for all the vibes, Socotra Yemeni Coffee House is in the running to be your new favorite coffee house…
