Erie County man arrested after shooting incident in Hornell

HORNELL, N.Y. (WETM) – An Erie County man has been arrested on assault and weapons charges following a shooting incident that occurred in Hornell on Monday.

Michael J. Grimmer, 58, of Boston, New York, was arrested on the following charges, as stated in a release from the City of Hornell Police Department:

  • Two counts of attempted assault in the first degree, a class C felony
  • Three counts of reckless endangerment in the first degree, a class D felony
  • Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony
  • Criminally using a firearm in the second degree, a class C felony

Officials say Grimmer was charged with the crimes on Wednesday, April 27, after police received a delayed complaint from the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, regarding an incident that had occurred on Monday, April 27.

At the time of the report, officials say the DA’s office stated that two victims were struck by a bullet that had been fired in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn in Hornell.
