New Erie County Sheriff’s Office helicopters revealed

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office will have two new helicopters ready to patrol the skies soon.

The sheriff’s office revealed the new helicopters near the Buffalo airport Tuesday morning. Sheriff John Garcia said the current “Air One” was only in operation for two months in all of last year, so the two new helicopters were needed.

Congressman Nick Langworthy secured more than $4 million to outfit the helicopters, and Assemblymember Pat Burke sent $1 million to Erie County — reducing the county’s cost for the helicopters to $7 million. Outfitting them will take some time, and the new helicopters are expected to take off next year.
