A new place to treat addiction

The “Answer to Addiction” is more than a slogan at Charlotte Behavioral Health Care (CBHC). It is the driving force behind the organization’s newest expansion: the Specialized Adult Detox and Recovery Unit (SADRU) — a space designed to provide individuals in crisis with a secure environment for detox, stabilization and recovery.

The 4,000-square-foot expansion is part of a larger, three-year, $9 million capital improvement initiative at CBHC that also includes plans for a future Substance Use Disorder Outpatient Treatment Pavilion. The inpatient unit itself costs approximately $2.8 million, with $2.6 million funded through state support and the remaining investment covered by CBHC.

J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp. and Fleischman, Garcia, Maslowski Architecture managed its design and construction.

The new unit includes 12 beds, a dedicated dayroom, courtyard space and a “Zen Den” designed to help patients decompress during recovery. In addition, the new facility — located at 1700 Education Ave., Punta Gorda — will offer enhanced space for individual and group counseling, dedicated Marchman Act service and expanded recovery programs…
