Is it illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk in Florida?

Riding on the sidewalk is allowed under state law, as long as the cyclist yields to pedestrians, but some cities and towns have their own restrictions.

In Fort Myers, cycling on the sidewalk is banned in downtown areas. And in Naples, it is not allowed on sidewalks in business districts or shopping centers.

Is it a law in Florida to wear a helmet while riding a bike in Florida?

While helmets are optional for adults, cyclists under 16 years old must wear them, according to Florida law. Officers can issue warnings or give a $15 pedestrian violation ticket to violators – though any ticket for a first offense will be dismissed if the rider buys a helmet and gives proof of purchase to the court.
