Residents examine future Burnt Store connector options

BURNT STORE — Despite there being no money to fund any of the Burnt Store Road East-West connector options, Charlotte County officials still want to know what plan works best for the future of the overcrowded roadway.

This week, more than 100 residents attended an open house at Burnt Store Presbyterian Church to learn the county’s plans for the Burnt Store corridor.

The county is preparing a preliminary engineering and environmental evaluation to establish a preferred east-west roadway alignment to connect Burnt Store Road to U.S. 41.

The areas being studied are north of Zemel Road, east of Burnt Store Road, south of Notre Dame Boulevard, and west of the U.S. 41 and Green Gulf Boulevard intersection.

Residents reviewed maps of the four alternatives for the Burnt Store Road East-West connector.

The most popular option was extending Tuckers Grade. According to the plan, this alternative doesn’t impact any homes along the 22 parcels needed for the $38.8 million expansion. The speed limit would be 45 mph on this road.
