As Saharan dust begins to fade across the Atlantic basin, tropical activity is beginning to pick up.

The National Hurricane Center is tracking two tropical disturbances, according to the latest advisory. Both currently show a low chance for development.

Although there were two hurricanes earlier in August — Debby and Ernesto — the month when tropical cyclone activity begins to pick up wa s fairly quiet .

But meteorologists have warned residents to not let their guard down when it comes to storms in the Atlantic basin.

AccuWeather forecasters are predicting “a major shift in the weather pattern will soon blow the doors wide open for a frenzy of tropical activity to unfold .” We might be seeing the beginning of that shift.

“I think things could get very active potentially very quickly here as soon as that dry air — Saharan dust — goes away,” AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva said.
