TROPICAL STORM HELENE: Charlotte County to close schools Thursday, shelters open Wednesday

Charlotte County Public Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 26-27, officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

“This decision has been made in coordination with local emergency management officials and is part of the district’s commitment to safeguarding the community,” the announcement states.

Kingsway Elementary will close at noon Wednesday, Sept. 25 to serve as a shelter for residents.

All after-school activities scheduled for Wednesday are canceled, with the exception of on-campus daycare programs, which will remain operational.

“A decision regarding Friday night high school activities will be made once more information on the potential impacts of the storm becomes available.

“The school district encourages families to remain vigilant and stay updated by monitoring communications from local authorities and the district,” the announcement states.
