Salvation Army assists region

PORT CHARLOTTE — Local volunteer groups are already gathering to assist after Hurricane Helene, among them, The Salvation Army.

“While several communities in Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte are still inundated, we were able to visit with several individuals offering some comfort with a hot meal, cold bottle of water, and a prayer,” Israel Roseno said.

Roseno is a captain with the group.

On Friday, according to a news release, volunteers prepared more than 200 meals and nearly 300 water bottles to distribute to the Charlotte County areas hardest hit by Helene.

Israel was thankful for the help from volunteers and donations.

“We would not be able to serve without the community support,” he said.

Anyone who would like to donate financially can dropped off checks or them mailed to 2120 Loveland Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL 33980.
