PUNTA GORDA — A 74-year-old Charlotte County man died at the Charlotte County Jail this week, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday.
Jack L. Plank died Thursday of a “medical episode,” the CCSO stated in a news release.
Plank was arrested Dec. 6 and charged with battery on a person 65 or older, and was originally booked on a $1,500 bond, according to arrest records.
His address was withheld from his booking report.
His court records were not available on the Charlotte County Clerk of the Circuit Court website on Friday.
“Mr. Plank suffered from a medical condition, which was known to CCSO members at the time of his intake,” the CCSO stated in a media release. “Mr. Plank was treated both in-house and at a local hospital multiple times during his short stay. Due to his condition, Mr. Plank was housed-in-infirmary and checked on in 30-minute intervals.”
On Thursday, a corrections deputy “discovered Mr. Plank on the floor and immediately called for help. Life-saving measures were attempted by several deputies, jail medical staff, and EMS to no avail. Mr. Plank was pronounced dead at the scene,” the release states.
