CAPE CORAL, Florida — A 16-year-old, identified as John David Ruiz, has been arrested in connection with a burglary involving stolen security equipment, according to the Cape Coral Police Department. The arrest followed an investigation initiated after Ruiz’s father reported suspicious items found in his son’s bedroom.
On July 10, 2025, Ruiz was reported as a runaway by his father, who also turned over several items he believed were stolen, including a black tactical armored vest labeled “SECURITY,” three loaded AR-15 style rifle magazines, a handgun magazine, and a box of 9MM ammunition, stated the department. On July 12, 2025, officers responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in Southeast Cape Coral, where approximately $8,850 worth of tactical and security equipment was stolen. Detectives confirmed that the vest matched the one stolen from the victim’s work truck.
Further investigation led detectives to obtain consent to search the Ruiz residence, where they found additional evidence, including the victim’s cut-up ID.
