As the temperature soars and humidity intensifies, our community faces a silent and dangerous threat of extreme heat. This is now one of the leading weather-related causes of death in the U.S., and for our most vulnerable neighbors, especially the uninsured, elderly, chronically ill, and those experiencing homelessness, heat exposure can trigger serious medical emergencies.
At the Virginia B. Andes Volunteer Community Clinic (VBA), we see these challenges everyday. From heat-related illnesses to worsening chronic conditions due to extreme weather, we are on the front lines providing compassionate primary care, semi urgent, pharmacy, specialty, wellness and mobile medical clinic services to the uninsured in our Charlotte communities…
