When the Sunrise Kiwanis first began its Shoes for Kids program 21 years ago, it was a surprise to parents when their child came home with new sneakers.
“I remember one kid came to school with really bad shoes and a teacher took him aside and had him picked out a brand new pair,” said Bob Carpenter, who helps head up the program for the Kiwanis.
