Historic World War II aircraft B-29 DOC and P-51 Gunfighter Coming to Fort Myers

PRESS RELEASE

Two of the most iconic aircraft of World War II will touch down at Page Field in Fort Myers from October 27–30 as part of the B-29 DOC History Restored Tour. The Boeing B-29 Superfortress known as “DOC” is one of only two airworthy B-29s remaining from nearly 4,000 built during the war. Constructed in Wichita, Kansas, in 1945, DOC represents one of the most advanced aircraft of its era — a long-range heavy bomber that helped change the course of aviation history. Joining DOC will be the North American P-51 Mustang “Gunfighter,” built in Inglewood, California, and delivered to the U.S. Army Air Forces in March 1945 before being assigned to the famed Eighth Air Force in England.
