South Florida mother accused of orchestrating failed murder-suicide pact that injured two

A Lehigh Acres mother was arrested as a suspect in the attempted premeditated murder of two people, as it appears life’s pressures crashed down on the family.

Barbara Bates, 59, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 4, after harming herself and two family members as part of a suicide pact, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a report of a Monday night suicide attempt on the 700 block of Almelia Street East, in Lehigh Acres, where Bates had cut two of her family members, waited 40 minutes, cut herself and then called 911…
