Voting opens for two Lee County School names

The School District of Lee County is launching a two-week voting period to help choose a name for two new schools. Five names recommended by an ad hoc committee of parents, community members and district staff are available to rank for High School NNN. Three names are recommended by a separate committee for Elementary L.

High School NNN is just starting construction at 21700 Tuckahoe Road in Alva. It will open with a capacity for 2,000 students in August 2027. The five finalists in alphabetical order are:

  • Alva Heritage High School
  • Alva High School
  • Peter Nelson High School
  • Franklin Mann High School
  • The Alva High School

The survey for students, parents and community members to rank their favorite choice is now available at www.surveymonkey.com/r/YSJY7R8. Alva High School, Alva Heritage High School and The Alva High School were chosen to represent the school’s location. Danish sea captain Peter Nelson is the founding father of the town of Alva. He named Alva after a flower found in his native country. Franklin Mann was a lifelong resident of Lee County. He served eight years in the Florida House of Representatives, four years in the Florida Senate, and 16 years on the Lee County Commission. The survey is open until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19.

Elementary L will begin in a temporary campus behind Lehigh Senior High School in August 2026. The campus will be located at 17250 State Road 82 in Lehigh Acres and accommodate 1,000 students when opening in August 2028. The three finalists in alphabetical order are:

  • Bright Elementary.
  • Green Meadow Elementary.
  • Lucky Lee Elementary.

The survey for students, parents, and community members to rank their favorite choice is now available at www.surveymonkey.com/r/YXPY6NK. Bright Elementary was selected to represent the student body. Green Meadow represents the road next to the school location on State Road 82. Lucky Lee is the name of the ranch that was developed into Lehigh Acres.
