CAPE CORAL, Florida — A Cape Coral man was arrested early Thursday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing his vehicle, according to a press release from the Cape Coral Police Department. Javier Alvarez Alvarez, a 27-year-old resident, was driving a silver 2012 Volkswagen Jetta at 119 mph in a 55 mph zone when he was spotted by an officer conducting radar enforcement.
The incident occurred near 1851 NE Pine Island Road around 2:20 a.m. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but Alvarez turned northbound onto Del Prado Boulevard North, lost control, and crashed into a traffic sign. The vehicle became stuck on the sign, allowing the officer to detain Alvarez without losing visual contact.
Alvarez admitted to being the driver and claimed he lost control due to the vehicle’s manual transmission. Officers noted signs of impairment, including watery eyes and the odor of alcohol. A concealed handgun and an alcohol-filled flask were found on Alvarez during a search, the department stated…
