Latest news: Nobody arrested in alcohol-tobacco sweep

PUNTA GORDA — The Punta Gorda Police Department periodically pairs up with state regulators to try to see which stores in town will sell alcohol or tobacco to underage buyers.

The Police Department Special Operations Section, along with investigators from the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco, conduct “sweeps” of city stores that sell alcohol and tobacco and other nicotine products, to try to purchase the items using underage buyers.

But the latest “sweep” was a “clean” one with no store clerks being cited or arrested for selling items illegally, according to a PGPD announcement…
