State health dept. issues blue-green algae alert for Caloosahatchee River-Sebastian Canal

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Lee County has issued a health alert for the presence of blue-green algae toxins in the Caloosahatchee River-Sebastian Canal.

DOH-Lee says that blue-green algae can produce toxins that can be harmful to humans as well as pets. They add that sensitive individuals, such as children, the elderly or those who are immunocompromised, may be at risk at even low concentrations and should avoid any exposure…
