Rideshare driver arrested, accused of being impaired on pills, passing out with car in drive

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A rideshare driver in Lee County was arrested after being found impaired and in possession of pills, prompting concerns about passenger safety. Early Saturday morning, a trooper found a driver slumped over asleep in front of a construction sign on I-75 in Lee County, with the SUV still in gear.

After the trooper woke up Christian Thresher, he said he was a rideshare driver heading to Cape Coral to pick someone up. Inside the SUV, pills and Narcan were on the seat, and cash was on the floor.

Maryann Whatley from Fort Myers shared her experience, saying, “My daughter was in an Uber car coming back from a restaurant. The Uber driver ran a red light and they thought that was supposed to be the safe way to come home.”…
