Cape Coral man arrested for retail theft at Lowes

CAPE CORAL, Florida — A Cape Coral man was arrested Monday for allegedly committing retail theft at a Lowe’s Home Improvement store, according to the Cape Coral Police Department.

Officers responded to the store at 1651 NE Pine Island Road around 12:44 p.m. after receiving a report of a theft in progress. Upon arrival, they met with store loss prevention personnel who had detained 69-year-old Michael Victor Nappa, identified by his Florida driver’s license and associated with a white Chevrolet Colorado.

The investigation revealed that Nappa allegedly removed the barcode from a Gorilla Double-Sided Tape package, priced at $7.98, and placed it over the barcode of a Heavy-Duty Scotch 4-count roll, priced at $17.98. He then proceeded through self-checkout, scanned the lower-priced barcode, and passed all points of sale before being detained by store personnel. Officers found the ripped Gorilla Tape barcode in Nappa’s pocket, which matched the discarded packaging and scanned as Gorilla Tape in the store system. The total loss for this incident was $10.00…
