Cape Coral police to enhance road safety with high visibility enforcement

CAPE CORAL, Florida — The Cape Coral Police Department will continue its High Visibility Enforcement Details through May 8, 2026, to protect vulnerable road users.

Lee County is among the top 25 counties in Florida for traffic crashes leading to serious and fatal injuries involving pedestrians and bicyclists. Between January 1, 2025, and November 30, 2025, Cape Coral recorded 194 traffic crashes involving bicycles and/or pedestrians, with 91 resulting in injuries and one fatality, according to a press release from the department.

The High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) initiative is funded through a contract with the University of North Florida and the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM), in collaboration with the Florida Department of Transportation’s initiative to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety.
