36 In 35—Nor-Tech Brings The 420 Monte Carlo Into The Outboard Age

Can an unusual-though-exquisite, European-style dayboat go in a completely different direction with power and find a new audience? That was the question Nor-Tech answered at the 2024 Miami International Boat Show with new 420 Monte Carlo model boasting a trio of Mercury Racing 500R outboard engines. And the answer was a definitive yes.

The Cape Coral, Fla., company introduced the stylish, closed-deck 42-footer in 2013 with stern-drive power. With twin Mercury Racing 700 SCi engines under the hatch, the boat topped 100 mph. Nor-Tech built many more stern-drive-engine-powered 420s ranging from Yanmar diesels to Mercury Racing’s turbocharged 1100s and anything in-between.

But that, as the saying goes, was then. By 2024, outboard dominance of the go-fast powerboat market was well established and 500R models were the stars of the show. So Nor-Tech showcased a new 420 Monte Carlo with Mercury Racing’s latest and greatest.
