Error-prone Eagles drop series opener at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Of FGCU’s seven hits at West Georgia on Thursday night, four were doubles. That is no surprise to a team that entered the game ranked 13th nationally and led the Atlantic Sun Conference in doubles.

The five errors that FGCU (19-10, 5-4 ASUN) committed, however, were a surprise to many. West Georgia (9-21, 6-4) capitalized on those five errors to score five unearned runs, the difference maker in a 9-4 loss to Wolves at Cole Field in Carrollton.

Jaret Nelson went 2-for-4 in the game with both of his hits going for extra bases. First it was his two-out double in the third inning and he followed that in the fifth with a two-out, three-run home run to left field. Wilfred Gonzalez also tallied two hits in four at bats and drew a walk…
