Indiana BMV reminds Hoosiers of registration rules for golf carts, ATVs and other recreational vehicles

As summer recreation ramps up across Indiana, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles is reminding residents to understand the state’s registration and title requirements before buying or operating golf carts, ATVs and other recreational vehicles.

The agency says understanding which vehicles require registration or titles can help buyers avoid fraud, comply with state law and prevent problems when purchasing or using a vehicle.

One area that often causes confusion is the difference between golf carts and low-speed vehicles, or LSVs. While golf carts do not require registration or titles through the BMV, LSVs do. LSVs are electric vehicles capable of speeds up to 25 miles per hour and are equipped with many of the same safety features found on passenger vehicles…
