MARION COUNTY, Ind. — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is suing the Indiana Department of Correction for failing to comply with Indiana law over the “timely transfer” of convicts.
On Wednesday, MCSO confirmed it filed a lawsuit against IDOC for violating state law and failing to accept inmates sentenced for felonies from local jails to the custody of the state.
MCSO cited state law, which it said requires individuals convicted of any felonies to be accepted by IDOC within five calendar days of receiving judgment. The sheriff’s office said IDOC “routinely fails to meet that requirement, leaving convicted inmates in the Marion County Adult Detention Center for many weeks after sentencing.”…
