INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WEHT) — Indiana hospitals are no longer allowed to divert ambulances becoming the third in the nation to implement this restriction.
Now, hospitals can not direct ambulances to other facilities when emergency departments become overcrowded. State health commissioner Lindsay Weaver says hospitals used it as a way to give staff a break from ambulances coming in.
However, she says it didn’t fix the problem; instead, diversion created one for EMS and possibly worsened patient outcomes…
