FARMERSBURG – (WTWO/WAWV) - A convicted murderer’s case is set to go before the Indiana Supreme Court in December to determine if his sentence should be reduced by reversing his conviction to commit burglary resulting in serious bodily injury. The murder conviction still stands.
William Grimes was convicted of the 2012 murder of Lowell Badger, 85, in his rural Sullivan County home. Grimes was convicted in May, 2025 of murder, burglary resulting in bodily injury, and burglary resulting in bodily injury (conspiracy to commit). According to court documents, Grimes was sentenced to 120 years: 65 years for felony murder, enhanced by five years for using a handgun, and 50 years for conspiracy to commit burglary.
In April 2026, in a split decision, the Indiana Court of Appeals reversed his conviction for conspiracy to commit burglary resulting in serious bodily injury. The Indiana Court of Appeals ordered, “the trial court vacate the judgment of conviction and sentence.”…
