St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church in downtown Indianapolis reacts to new pope

INDIANAPOLIS — The bells rang for several hours in celebration of a new pope at St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church, across from the Indiana Convention Center downtown. Indianapolis watched along with the other 1.4 billion Catholics around the world.

Father Rick Nagel, Pastor at St. John’s, said during their noon mass they prayed for the Cardinals voting and for the next selected pope to come soon and be the right person.

“At the beginning I said we are going to pray the prayers that the church gives us to pray for the new pope, not knowing that we were going to have a new pope when we got out of mass. So, it was really beautiful because those that were here were praying for him as he’s being elected! So, I’ll always remember that as a priest,” Father Rick said…
