‘Murdered… in front of his mother’ | Lawsuit says Madison County deputies killed man illegally and tried to cover it up

ANDERSON, Ind. — A lawsuit filed in late May alleges a sheriff’s deputy who shot and killed an Indianapolis man in Anderson last year did so “without any lawful justification” and then tried to cover up what really happened.

Four-year veteran Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy Mason Brizendine fatally shot 44-year-old La’Taurus Harrison on June 1, 2024. Harrison was in a car parked in the driveway of his mother’s home when he was killed.

Lawyers for his mother, on behalf of Harrison’s estate, filed a lawsuit on May 31, calling for a jury trial for the civil claims against Brizendine and two other deputies present when Harrison was killed.

According to the lawsuit, Harrison “was not causing any harm to anyone and posed no immediate threat.”…
