Speed limit increase on I-465 impacts Marion County deferral program

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Marion County program designed to help accused speeders keep infractions off their driving records by paying a fee will make a change as speed limits increase on I-465 on Tuesday.

The speed limit change, from 55 mph to 65 mph, is a result of House Enrolled Act 1461. The speed limit will stay 55 mph between 86th Street and 96th Street on the northwest side of Indianapolis due to the road’s design. Also, the northwest corner of I-465 — in Indianapolis and Boone County — at the interchange with I-865 will stay at 55 mph.

The Safe Driver Deferral Program of the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said in a notice issued Wednesday that eligibility for deferral of speeding infractions starting Tuesday will be limited to those driving from 1-15 mph over the posted speed limit…
