Indiana doctor faces suspension over unsafe prescribing practices

RENSSELAER, Ind. — Attorney General Todd Rokita has filed a petition to suspend the Controlled Substance Registration of Dr. Patrick Sheets, a Rensselaer physician, due to allegations of unsafe prescribing practices. These allegations include prescribing controlled substances to patients with known substance abuse issues without proper evaluations.

Rokita’s office received multiple complaints against Dr. Sheets. One complaint from a family member claimed that Dr. Sheets prescribed addictive medications to their mother despite her addiction, leading to legal troubles and repeated rehab stays. Another former patient alleged coercion into illegal activities to maintain access to medication.

“Protecting Hoosiers from unsafe medical practices is a top priority,” Rokita said. “The allegations against Dr. Sheets, if substantiated, indicate a pattern of reckless behavior that endangers patients.”…
