Speedway Sgt. May Honored with Lifesaving Award for Heroic Overdose Intervention

In a show of exemplary public service, Sgt. May of the Speedway Police Department has been recognized for his live-saving actions during an earlier event. According to a post on the Speedway PD’s Facebook page, the incident took place in January when officers were dispatched to assist with an unresponsive patient. Arriving swiftly at the scene, Sgt. May immediately identified the hallmarks of an overdose.

Without hesitation, Sgt. May, who had been issued Narcan following necessary training for precisely such crises, administered the lifesaving drug. After EMS was summoned to the scene, he commenced CPR on the patient, who was not breathing at the time. Thanks to his sustained efforts, the patient was successfully revived, a testament to the preparedness and quick actions that police officers are trained to execute in emergencies.

In recognition of his decisive intervention, Speedway PD’s Chief Upchurch granted Sgt. May the “Lifesaving Award” in a recent ceremony, acknowledging the significance of the sergeant’s actions.
