Major highway announces law change as drivers to be watched by speed cameras

Central Indiana drivers must gear up for a change. Earlier this year, state lawmakers accepted a bill that increases the speed limit on I-465 from 55 to 65 miles per hour. Gov. Mike Braun signed it into law on May 1.

The change is a part of a wider range of bills from the 2025 legislative session that took effect in July. This news also comes after North Dakota increased its speed limit, and Louisiana imposed stricter restrictions on drivers.

This speed limit change stems from the Indiana House Enrolled Act 1461. It primarily focuses on road funding and new toll roads across Indiana. The speed limit increase was incorporated during the bill’s passage through the Indiana Senate. Since July 1, most of the I-465 has a new 65 mph speed limit, barring some exceptions.
