52-year-old inmate dies at Marion County Adult Detention Center

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 52-year-old inmate died at the Marion County Adult Detention Center early Friday morning, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 12:45 a.m. Friday, corrections staff responded to an unresponsive inmate, identified as 52-year-old Fredrick Bennett. Corrections staff and on-site medical staff immediately rendered aid and requested assistance from emergency medical services (EMS). EMS medics arrived and took over life-saving efforts before declaring Bennett dead at 1:19 a.m. Friday.

Bennett’s death is being independently investigated by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Forensic Services Agency, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit, which is standard procedure.
