Residents Jump From Windows To Escape Apartment Fire In Indianapolis

Firefighters in Indianapolis arrived at an apartment fire early Friday to find residents jumping out of windows to escape the flames, officials said.

The Wayne Township Fire Department said crews responded at around 3:15 a.m. Friday to a fire with “reported entrapment” at a two-story apartment building on the 5700 block of Port of Prince Drive on the west side of Indianapolis. They arrived to find heavy fire in a common stairwell, and upgraded the call to a two-alarm fire, bringing additional firefighters and equipment to the scene.

“Several residents were seen escaping the blaze, with some forced to jump from second-floor windows due to the intense flames,” the fire department said. “”Firefighters faced extreme challenges as the fire cut off the occupants primary escape routes.”…
