Carmel City Council proposes e-bike ordinance after rise in accidents involving kids

CARMEL, Ind. — E-bikes and scooters are giving kids in Carmel new ways to get around but giving city leaders new reasons to worry.

On Monday night, the Carmel City Council introduced an ordinance aimed at cutting down on injuries related to the fast-growing fleet of lithium-powered machines.

Ordinance No. D-2796-25 would add new language to city code defining micro-mobility devices, which is defined as anything powered by electricity that still requires human input, and spell out where those devices can and can’t go…
