Community Link: Guns Down, Gloves Up program
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This week on “Community Link,” host Carolene Mays spoke with Michael Ford, the founder Guns Down Gloves Up, a program that uses boxing to help young people defuse anger and reduce gun violence in the community.
Ford says Guns Down Gloves Up began “kind of by accident” as an offshoot of a summer jobs program he was involved in with Mayor Joe Hogsett.
“We went into communities, started talking to the young guys who had humongous guns, and we would ask them, could they exchange them for a job, exchange them for money? And that job was the money. And that’s how it happened.”…
