First female three-star Marine general calls Indiana home

INDIANAPOLIS — On the Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary, a trailblazing general who now lives in Central Indiana is reflecting on a career that saw many “firsts” for women in uniform.

Lieutenant General Carol Mutter, who grew up in Greeley, Colorado, had originally dreamed of becoming a math teacher. She was attending what was Colorado State College when she decided to join the Marine Corps.

“This was during Vietnam… I felt like I could do something to support the country and in the military,” she said…
